We are always excited to add new books to our library!

Here's a recap of what we have been doing during the last couple months! Kindergartners learned about many great books by one of my favorite authors, Oliver Jeffers! They are now learning about another favorite author, Peter Brown. Our 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders recently finished learning about the Chickadee Book Award books (a state book award for kids in Maine) and voted for their favorites. Congratulations to Chez Bob by Bob Shea, the 2023 Chickadee Book Award winner! 1st graders are now learning more about organization of books in the library, while also reading the Library Mouse series by Daniel Kirk. 2nd graders are also learning more about organization in the library! We've recently been practicing alphabetizing to help us locate books by call number. 3rd graders have been reviewing how books are organized in the library. They have been especially helpful in putting returned books away in their correct spot! 4th graders have been working on book trailers for books from the Chickadee Book Award list. 5th graders have been working on how-to videos to help our younger students learn library routines and expectations! Many classes have also earned MakerLab visits (by earning stickers for great class behavior). Our library has been a busy, and fun, place to be! It's been a busy few weeks in the library! We've had exciting science experiments, fun engineering activities, engaging mystery meets, and, of course, many fantastic books! Below is a peek at some of our recent library activities!
One of our amazing 2nd grade classes created volcano slime! After a cool volcano-like eruption, continued mixing turned their mixture into slime! After reading the humorous story Chez Bob, 3rd graders created nests for Bob the alligator! As an extension of our traveling mural project, two of our classes had Mystery Meets with classes at one of our buddy schools. Using maps and asking questions, they were able to correctly guess that New Jersey was the location of the other school.
Our library instructional times often include many fun STEM activities! Last week we had a seasonal/holiday stem week. Among the fun activities available were science experiments, candy cane coding, jingle bell mazes, LED light tree/candles, and a magnetic challenge! Activities varied by grade level. There was so much enthusiasm from our learners during this fun week! We have been busy in the library! These last few weeks have been full of scavenger hunts, location skill lessons, STEM projects, and other exciting activities. Our library is always an active place full of reading, learning, researching, and creating! Here are some recent scenes from the BCES library! |
