One of the most popular "staff" members in our library is Newbery, our library gecko! She is a young leopard gecko who happily calls our school library her home. Newbery has made many friends among our BCES students and staff, with some stopping in to say hello to her every day. Newbery is not our only library pet. Betta fish Fiction & Nonfiction, who previously lived in the Hollis library, are also getting plenty of attention from our library users!

One of the many new additions to the BCES library is our Maker Lab! This new space is a makerspace where our learners have an opportunity to explore and create using a variety of materials. Our Maker Lab has many fun items including Snap Circuits, a Lego wall, building planks, magnetic tiles, origami paper, yarn, duct tape, and many other materials that encourage our learners to explore their imagination and creativity. From their enthusiastic response to this new space, I have a feeling it's going to be a popular part of our library!
Our school year has gotten off to a fantastic start in the library! I have had a great time meeting the students of BCES, and look forward to meeting those who have not had their library time yet. Recent library visits included scavenger hunts, Breakouts, and many wonderful books! Students were also able to meet our library pets - Newbery the leopard gecko, and Betta fish Fiction and Nonfiction. I'm looking forward to a fun year of learning and reading in the library!
