We recently had our first Mystery Skype of the school year! Last Monday, a lucky group of 5th graders had an international Mystery Skype with a group of students in Portugal. Mystery Skypes are an exciting way to connect with classes around the world. Each class does not know the location of the other, and must ask each other questions to determine the locations. It is a fun way to practice our geography and detective skills while learning about other countries!

Our library had our first author Skype of the school year last week! Ms. Mingione's kindergartners Skyped with author Jonathan Emmett during their library time on Wednesday. Mr. Emmett, who lives in England, is the author of many funny picture books including The Princess and the Pig. Our learners loved meeting Mr. Emmett and hearing him read to us!
One of my passions is using our library to connect our learners with classes around the world! Through Mystery Skypes, Pen Pals, and other collaborations, our learners have the opportunity to connect and learn about life in many other places. We already have several global connection opportunities beginning for our BCES learners! Below are some of the exciting connections that we are making around the world. One of our 4th grades will be collaborating with a class in India throughout the year. We are starting by learning about literature from each other's nation. Here is a picture of some of our 4th graders reading books written by authors from India. Several 4th grades will be corresponding throughout the year with a group of students at a school in France! This past week they each created a card to send to their new friends in France. A group of 5th graders will be continuing with the Denmark exchange that I began last year with a class of 4th graders at Hollis. They also created cards for their new friends last week!
