Our library has been a busy and exciting place for the last few months! Here are some updates on recent library activities! We recently kicked off our "awards season" in the library! 4th & 5th graders viewed trailers for several Newbery winning books, kindergartners learned about the Caldecott medal, and 1st - 3rd graders began reading books from our Chickadee Book Award list! Our most recent Chickadee Book Award selection was Old Rock (Is Not Boring) by Deb Pilutti. After reading this fun book about the exciting life of a rock, several classes participated in rock science activities. We learned, in our science experiments, that limestone fizzles with vinegar, and pumice floats! After our experiments, we tried out some of the rock slime that Mrs. Parker made! We had a lot of fun with that! Several of our kindergarten students have been learning about bears in their homerooms so, as part of our Caldecott unit, we read the Caldecott Honor book Blueberries for Sal, by Robert McCloskey. We then followed that with a fun building challenge! Students had to design a way to get the bear from one hill to the hill with blueberries! We had a great time doing these activities! Many more fun and exciting library activities are being planned for our learners!
